PM Modi highlights decade of reforms transforming India’s food processing sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his message at World Food India 2024, praised India’s progress in building a strong food processing ecosystem over the last decade. He highlighted the creation of modern infrastructure, robust supply chains, and employment opportunities across the country.

PM Modi emphasized India’s vibrant and diverse food culture, crediting farmers for their role in shaping the nation’s culinary traditions. He also stressed the importance of innovative policies and cutting-edge technologies in helping India set global benchmarks for sustainability, safety, and innovation in the food sector.

Key reforms such as 100% FDI in food processing, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, and the Production Linked Incentive scheme were mentioned as crucial initiatives for strengthening the food processing sector.

World Food India 2024 was recognized as a vibrant platform for B2B interactions, exhibitions, and knowledge-sharing, bringing together participants from over 90 countries. Japan was named as the Partner country, with Vietnam and Iran as Focus countries. The event also saw the inauguration of more than 50 food processing units and awards for winners of the Startup Grand Challenge, promoting innovation in waste management and efficient water use.

Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and supporting farmers. Union MoS Chirag Paswan highlighted India’s transformation into a global leader in food processing and its focus on innovation and sustainability. The Global Food Regulators Summit 2024, organized by FSSAI, was also announced, focusing on food safety, quality standards, and best practices.

The event provided a major networking platform for government bodies, industry professionals, farmers, and entrepreneurs, showcasing India’s resilience and leadership in the food processing industry.
