PM Modi highlights solar energy revolution, urges citizens to join clean power movement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the rapid expansion of solar energy adoption across India, crediting government initiatives and community participation for driving the country’s clean energy transition.

Addressing the nation in the 132nd edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said that in the face of global challenges like climate change, traditional knowledge and collective efforts are emerging as effective solutions.

He noted a visible shift across cities and towns, where rooftop solar panels have become increasingly common, attributing this transformation to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme, he said, is not only promoting renewable energy but also empowering individuals economically.

Sharing success stories, PM Modi spoke about Payal Munjpara from Surendranagar district, who trained as a solar technician and is now working as an entrepreneur, installing rooftop solar systems and earning a steady income.

He also highlighted the example of Arun Kumar from Meerut, who has turned into a local energy provider by generating solar power, reducing his electricity bills and selling surplus energy.

In Jaipur, a farmer named Muralidhar has transitioned from diesel-powered irrigation to solar pumps, significantly cutting costs and improving agricultural productivity, the Prime Minister noted.

The benefits of solar energy are also reaching remote regions, he added, citing villages in Tripura inhabited by the Riang tribe. Solar mini-grids have improved access to electricity, enabling children to study after dark and enhancing overall quality of life.

Emphasising that such examples reflect a broader “solar revolution” in the country, the Prime Minister urged citizens to actively participate in the clean energy movement and encourage others to adopt sustainable practices.
