Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday shared an article by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi, emphasising that women empowerment remains central to India’s progress.
Responding to Annpurna Devi’s post on X, the Prime Minister said that “Nari Shakti is at the heart of India’s future. As Bharat enters Amrit Kaal, the term is no longer just a slogan; it is a national mission. From One-Stop Centres to fast-track courts, from helplines to social-security hubs, under Mission Shakti, the government is ensuring dignity and opportunity for women.” He urged people to read the Minister’s article, calling it a “prudent introspection.”
Earlier, Annpurna Devi said that women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment are the government’s top priorities. She highlighted progress made under Mission Shakti, noting that 864 One-Stop Centres have provided medical, legal, shelter, and counselling support to more than 12.67 lakh women since 2015. The Women Helpline (181), active across 35 states and Union Territories, has assisted over 93 lakh women.
In her article, the Minister detailed how Mission Shakti is strengthening systems for women’s safety and empowerment. She said One-Stop Centres have become key support facilities for women affected by violence, offering integrated services in a single location. The national helpline, integrated with emergency services, ensures quicker responses to women in distress.
The Minister also highlighted the role of 745 Fast Track Special Courts, including 404 exclusive POCSO courts, which have disposed of more than 3 lakh cases. Women Help Desks at police stations, Anti-Human Trafficking Units, and safety measures in transport systems funded under the Nirbhaya scheme were also cited as significant interventions.
She said the government’s broader approach includes preventive and rehabilitative measures through schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, and Sakhi Niwas hostels, which provide safe accommodation for working women. The SANKALP Hubs for Empowerment of Women have helped more than 27 lakh women by connecting them with various schemes and services.
Calling women central to India’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, the Minister said that empowering women is essential to the country’s development goals and that Mission Shakti is reshaping governance to place women at the core of progress.
