Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a grand roadshow in Guwahati on Saturday ahead of the ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ event at Sarusajai Stadium, where he lauded the Assam government’s efforts in celebrating the cultural heritage of the state’s tea tribe and Adivasi communities.
‘Jhumoir Binandini’ is a cultural programme dedicated to the traditional Jhumoir dance, a folk art form deeply rooted in Assam’s tea gardens. The dance, performed by the Adivasi and tea tribe communities, symbolizes inclusivity, unity, and cultural pride, reflecting the diverse heritage of the region.
PM Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Assam, was received by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma upon his arrival in Guwahati. The Prime Minister waved to enthusiastic crowds lining the streets, as people extended a warm welcome on his way to the event venue.
Chief Minister Sarma took to social media to express his gratitude, saying, “It is a privilege and honour to welcome the world’s most popular leader, PM Narendra Modi, to Assam. Prime Minister’s vision drives us in our pursuit to build a Viksit Assam.”
At the Sarusajai Stadium, PM Modi greeted the audience with a wave as he arrived on stage alongside CM Sarma. Speaking at the event, he expressed his excitement about witnessing the performances and extended his appreciation to the Assam government for organizing the programme.
As part of his visit, the Prime Minister is also set to inaugurate Advantage Assam 2.0, a major infrastructure and investment summit.
