Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and launched various development projects worth over ₹2,580 crore in Silvassa, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Among the key projects was the inauguration of the Namo Hospital in Silvassa, aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities in the region.

Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of the Union Territory and acknowledged his long-standing connection with the region. He emphasized the transformation witnessed under his government since 2014, stating that Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu had evolved into a progressive and modern hub.

PM Modi underscored the historical potential of the region, drawing a parallel with Singapore’s transformation from a small fishing village to a global city due to its people’s determination. He encouraged the citizens of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu to adopt a similar resolve, assuring them of the government’s support.

Highlighting his vision, the Prime Minister stated that the region is being developed as a model territory known for high-tech infrastructure, modern healthcare, world-class educational institutes, industrial growth, and tourism. He commended the leadership of Administrator Praful Patel and the central government’s role in accelerating the region’s progress.

Several key government initiatives have contributed to this transformation, including One Nation One Ration Card, Jal Jeevan Mission, BharatNet, PM Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima, and PM Suraksha Bima. The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving 100% saturation in initiatives like the Smart Cities Mission, Samagra Shiksha, and PM Mudra Yojana to ensure comprehensive development.

Education and Healthcare Expansion

PM Modi highlighted significant improvements in the region’s education sector, noting the establishment of six national-level institutions, including Namo Medical College, Gujarat National Law University, IIIT Diu, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, and Daman Engineering College. He emphasized that education is now accessible in multiple languages, and smart classrooms are transforming primary and secondary education.

On the healthcare front, the Prime Minister noted the expansion of medical services, including the inauguration of a 450-bed hospital in Silvassa. The healthcare facilities will particularly benefit the tribal population. The initiative aligns with Jan Aushadhi Diwas, promoting affordable medical treatment through the expansion of Jan Aushadhi centers. Over 15,000 such centers across India provide medicines at significantly reduced prices, and the government aims to expand this to 25,000 centers.

Combating Obesity and Lifestyle Diseases

Addressing public health concerns, PM Modi raised awareness about the rising threat of obesity, citing reports predicting that by 2050, over 440 million Indians could suffer from the condition. He urged citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles by reducing their consumption of cooking oil by 10% monthly and incorporating physical activity into their daily routines.

The Prime Minister highlighted the region’s rapid industrial expansion over the past decade, supported by the Mission Manufacturing initiative. New industries and the expansion of existing ones have led to increased investment and employment opportunities, particularly benefiting tribal communities, women, and marginalized groups. Schemes like the Gir Adarsh Jeevika Yojana are empowering SC, ST, OBC communities and promoting self-employment.

Boosting Tourism and Infrastructure Development

PM Modi also emphasized tourism as a major employment driver in the region. Key initiatives such as the development of Ram Setu, Namo Path, Tent City in Daman, and the Night Market have boosted tourism. The establishment of a large bird sanctuary, an upcoming eco-resort in Dudhani, and coastal development projects in Diu, including the Blue Flag-certified Ghoghla Beach, are enhancing the region’s appeal. Additionally, the introduction of a cable car project in Diu aims to boost tourism further.

Infrastructure development remains a priority, with the construction of a bullet train station near Dadra and the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway passing through Silvassa. Over 500 kilometers of roadwork is currently underway, along with airport upgrades under the UDAN scheme to enhance regional connectivity.

Good Governance and Digital Accessibility

The Prime Minister lauded efforts to improve governance, stating that administrative processes have been digitized, reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies. He said that special government camps are being organized in villages to address citizens’ concerns promptly.

Concluding his address, PM Modi congratulated the people of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu for the region’s progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its continued development.
