PM Modi inaugurates Swabhiman Flats for JJ cluster residents in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated 1,675 newly constructed flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters, handing over keys to the eligible beneficiaries at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, Delhi.

These flats were built under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project, aimed at providing better living conditions for the urban poor.

Before the inauguration, PM Modi inspected the flats and interacted with beneficiaries, who expressed their gratitude for the housing.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “A home is where dreams take root, and we are committed to ensuring proper housing for every Indian… This will ensure better and healthier living for several people.”

This marks the second successful In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), aimed at improving living standards in JJ clusters with access to proper amenities.

For every Rs 25 lakh spent on constructing a flat, beneficiaries pay a nominal Rs 1.42 lakh, along with Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance.

In addition to the flats, PM Modi virtually inaugurated two urban redevelopment projects: the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar.

The WTC project replaces over 600 old quarters with state-of-the-art commercial towers, providing 34 lakh square feet of premium space with eco-friendly features like solar energy and rainwater harvesting systems.

The GPRA project includes 28 residential towers with over 2,500 modern housing units, incorporating green building practices such as rainwater harvesting and solar-powered waste compactors.

PM Modi also inaugurated the CBSE’s Rs 300 crore Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka, featuring offices, an auditorium, a data center, and eco-friendly infrastructure adhering to the Platinum Rating standards of the Indian Green Building Council.

Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for three major projects in Delhi University worth over Rs 600 crore, including new campuses at Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi, a Western Campus in Dwarka, and the state-of-the-art Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh.
