Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended a global invitation to tech enthusiasts, innovators, and stakeholders worldwide for the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2023.
In a LinkedIn post, PM Modi urged them to participate in the two-day summit starting on December 12th, at Bharat Mandapam, featuring engaging sessions and an AI Expo showcasing 150 startups.
The summit will host senior-level government delegations from 29 GPAI member countries, along with GPAI’s multi-stakeholder experts’ group, global AI experts, multilateral organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
As part of the summit, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI) at IIT Madras, is organizing a research symposium under the theme, “Advancing Responsible AI in Public-Sector Applications.” The symposium aims to provide a platform for Indian and international academicians and researchers to collaborate with AI experts, present actionable research on responsible AI to a global audience, and enhance cross-sectoral research on responsible AI.
PM Modi, in his post, emphasized India’s rapid progress in AI, referring to India as one of the youngest nations with a vibrant start-up ecosystem and a talented workforce. He highlighted the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative as a pioneering effort, providing scalable, secure, affordable, sustainable, and replicable solutions globally. He noted India’s technological leap over the past decade, attributing it to the rapid penetration of mobiles, internet connectivity, and scalable models for digital inclusion.
Emphasizing India’s commitment to inclusive growth, PM Modi stated that the country’s progress is guided by a dedication to fostering a model of growth that is both equitable and all-encompassing. He affirmed that when India leads, it ensures the inclusion of all towards the greater good.
As the Lead Chair of the GPAI, PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to leveraging technology, particularly AI, for the well-being of people. He assured that the Global South won’t lag behind in benefiting from these advancements and that India is actively working towards a regulatory framework for Safe and Trusted AI, fostering global collaboration for its widespread and lasting implementation.
