PM Modi lauds Padma Shri awardee Parshuram Komaji Khune’s contribution to tribal upliftment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Padma Shri awardee Parshuram Komaji Khune during his recent visit to Maharashtra’s Chandrapur.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “His remarkable work, leveraging drama and folk art to uplift tribal communities, has earned him widespread respect.”

PM Modi lauded Khune’s contributions to tribal upliftment through drama and folk art, saying his efforts have helped boost culture and social awareness.

Maharashtra’s Zadipatti theatre artist Parshuram Komaji Khune is popularly known as ‘Vidarbhacha Dada Kondke’ (Dada Kondke of Vidarbha, after the legendary Marathi actor and producer).

He has acted in in more than 5,000 plays and potrayed over 800 roles. Singacha Chaava’, ‘Swargavar Swari’, ‘Lagna Nachi Bedi’, ‘Ech Paala’, ‘Mary’s Ghosts’, ‘Lavani Bhulli Abhangala’ are some of his famous and memorable roles.

For his contribution in the field of drama art, the Government of Maharashtra, in 2012, awarded him with the Kala Dan Puraskar.

The Government of Maharashtra in 1991 awarded Khune with Shetinishta Puraskar for his various inventions in the field of agriculture. He also received the Kala Gaurav Puraskar in 1993.

He was also recognized for his participation in Akhil Bhartiya Nehru Yuwa Kendra, Madras by the District Administration in 1994.

Later in the year 1996, Khune was honoured with Smita Patil Smruti Puraskar for Manav Mandir, Nagpur.
