Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the launch of a new trilateral initiative — the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership — aimed at advancing cooperation in key futuristic sectors.
The announcement came after PM Modi’s meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
“Had an excellent meeting with Anthony Albanese, PM of Australia, and Mark Carney, PM of Canada, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. We are delighted to announce an Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership today,” PM Modi posted on X.
According to the Prime Minister, the ACITI initiative will help strengthen collaboration among the three democratic nations in crucial areas such as emerging technologies, clean energy, diversified supply chains, and the mass adoption of artificial intelligence.
“The initiative will deepen collaboration between democratic partners across three continents and three oceans in emerging technologies, support diversification of supply chains, clean energy and mass adoption of AI,” he said.
He added that the partnership is designed to contribute to a more resilient global future:
“We look forward to working together to guarantee a better future for the coming generations!”
The launch also aligns with India’s broader efforts to drive global reform and cooperation during the G20 Summit. Earlier in the day, PM Modi called for a major rethink of development parameters, proposed the creation of a G20 initiative to counter the drug-terror nexus, and suggested forming a global healthcare response team to tackle future crises.
The Prime Minister also held bilateral discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, describing his interaction with the latter as “very productive”.
