Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary, describing his fearlessness, sacrifice and commitment to India’s freedom struggle as a lasting source of inspiration, particularly for the country’s youth.
In a video message shared on X, PM Modi recalled Bhagat Singh’s indomitable courage and his sensitivity towards the suffering of ordinary people.
“Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh is an inspirational figure for every Indian, especially the youth. Fearlessness and courage were embedded in his nature,” the Prime Minister said.
Recalling a letter Bhagat Singh wrote to the British authorities before his execution, PM Modi said the revolutionary had demanded that he and his fellow revolutionaries be treated as prisoners of war and executed by shooting rather than hanging.
The Prime Minister said the demand was evidence of Bhagat Singh’s “indomitable courage” and his unwavering commitment to the nation.
PM Modi also highlighted Bhagat Singh’s concern for the suffering of people and his willingness to help others. “Bhagat Singh was very sensitive towards the suffering of people and always helped them,” he said.
In a separate post on X, the Prime Minister said Bhagat Singh’s courage and valour had infused new vigour into India’s freedom movement.
“Millions of salutations to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. With their indomitable courage and valor, he infused new vigor into the freedom movement. His spirit of sacrificing everything for the honor of the nation is a symbol of the courage and resolve of India’s youth,” PM Modi said.
Nitin Gadkari, Yogi Adityanath Also Pay Tribute
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tribute to Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. “On the birth anniversary of the brave son of Mother India, Martyr Bhagat Singh ji, humble salutations to him,” said Gadkari in a post on X.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also remembered the revolutionary, describing his courage, sacrifice and martyrdom as an enduring source of inspiration.
CM Yogi said Bhagat Singh had dedicated his life to making India’s freedom the sole aim of his life and called upon people to draw lessons from his patriotism and courage.
In a message to the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister said Bhagat Singh had laid down his life for the motherland at the age of just 23. He urged people, particularly the youth, to use the occasion to renew their commitment to national duty and work towards eliminating social evils.
“Today, we too must draw lessons from his indomitable courage and patriotism to break free from the shackles of casteism, addiction, and other social evils. From his life, we should take inspiration to make knowledge our strength, keep the thirst for learning alive, and connect our resolve with action,” CM Yogi said.
He further called for linking knowledge with skills, skills with resolve and resolve with action to contribute to Uttar Pradesh’s development.
“Let us all come together to play our role in building a knowledgeable, value-driven, and capable Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
