PM Modi, President Murmu, Vice President Dhankhar, and other leaders extend greetings on Maharashtra and Gujarat Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the people of Maharashtra and Gujarat on the occasion of their Statehood Day, celebrating the cultural, historical, and economic contributions of both states to the nation. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and other senior leaders also conveyed their best wishes, acknowledging the pivotal role of Maharashtra and Gujarat in India’s development.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised Maharashtra for its enduring role in India’s growth and its deep-rooted cultural heritage. “Maharashtra Day greetings to the people of the state, which has always played a vital role in India’s development. When one thinks of Maharashtra, its glorious history and the courage of the people come to our mind. The state remains a strong pillar of progress and at the same time has remained connected to its roots. My best wishes for the state’s progress,” he said.

On Gujarat Day, PM Modi lauded the state for its entrepreneurial spirit and dynamic progress across various sectors. “On the proud occasion of their Statehood Day, my best wishes to the people of Gujarat. The state has distinguished itself for its culture, spirit of enterprise and dynamism. The people of Gujarat have excelled in various fields. May the state keep attaining new heights of progress,” the Prime Minister said.

President Droupadi Murmu also took to X to greet the people of Gujarat, calling it a land that has shaped India’s moral and political legacy. “On the foundation day of Gujarat state, I extend my heartiest greetings to all my countrymen, especially my Gujarati brothers and sisters living in India and abroad,” she said.

She highlighted Gujarat as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remarking that the state’s contributions have enhanced India’s reputation on the global stage. “The people here have increased India’s prestige across the world, on the strength of their talent, dedication and hard work. I am confident that Gujarat will set new standards of progress and will make a significant contribution in making India a world power,” the President added added.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar echoed similar sentiments, saying: “Warm greetings on Gujarat Statehood Day. The land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gujarat, continues to inspire through its legacy of leadership, resilience and innovation. Wishing the state continued advancement as it reaches new heights.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his heartfelt wishes, celebrating Gujarat’s natural diversity, historical richness, and industrious people. “Gujarat has always attracted people from all over the world with its talent, hard work and practical skills. I pray to Dada Somnath for the continued progress and upliftment of the people of Gujarat,” he said in a post on X.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also marked the day with a special announcement. He unveiled a plan to observe the decade from 2025 to 2035 as the “Utkarsh Gujarat Diamond Festival,” culminating in the Diamond Jubilee of Gujarat’s formation in 2035. The initiative aims to celebrate the state’s legacy and chart a roadmap for its future growth.

May 1 is observed annually as Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day, commemorating the formation of the two states in 1960. Following the passage of the Bombay Reorganisation Act, the erstwhile Bombay State was divided on linguistic lines, giving rise to Maharashtra for Marathi speakers and Gujarat for Gujarati speakers. Over the decades, both states have emerged as cultural, industrial, and economic powerhouses, playing key roles in shaping India’s post-independence journey.
