PM Modi, Singapore PM Wong hold bilateral talks at Hyderabad House

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who is on a three-day official visit to India, held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday.

Wong’s visit marks the 60th anniversary of India–Singapore diplomatic relations.

“Singapore is an important partner for India, including in our ‘Act East’ Policy. During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024, bilateral ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

According to the MEA, the visit will allow the two Prime Ministers to review “robust and multifaceted cooperation” and chart the path for future collaboration. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the Singaporean leader and discussed ways to strengthen ties.

“Pleased to call on PM Lawrence Wong of Singapore this morning in Delhi. Appreciate his constant encouragement for the strengthening of India–Singapore ties. Confident that his talks later today with PM Narendra Modi will chart a roadmap for our contemporary ties,” Jaishankar posted on X.

Wong also shared on X: “With India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar—we discussed regional & global developments, and the good progress in India–SG cooperation.”

This is Wong’s first visit to India since assuming office. He is accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and senior officials. He is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu later in the day.

On Tuesday, Wong met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss cooperation in the fields of health and finance.
