PM Modi thanks South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung for wishes on India-New Zealand friendship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday thanked South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung for his warm wishes for the friendship and progress of India and New Zealand following his arrival in Auckland on the final leg of his three-nation tour.

In a post on X, PM Modi expressed appreciation for the South Korean leader’s message.

“Thank you President Lee Jae-Myung for your kind wishes. Such thoughtful messages from friends are always cherished,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi’s response came after President Lee said on X, “Wishing for the friendship and progress of both India and New Zealand.”

The South Korean President shared the message while reposting a video of the warm welcome accorded to PM Modi by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon upon his arrival in Auckland.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi’s visit to New Zealand is expected to build on the strong momentum in bilateral ties following Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025.

During the visit, PM Modi and his New Zealand counterpart are expected to hold discussions on further expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, with a particular focus on strengthening economic, trade and commercial engagement.

The MEA said India and New Zealand have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral trade and commercial relations through the signing of the Free Trade Agreement.

The MEA also highlighted the significant contribution of the Indian diaspora to the relationship between the two countries. During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to address a large gathering of the Indian community in New Zealand, recognising its role in strengthening people-to-people ties and its contributions across various sectors of New Zealand society.
