Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a new Jan Aushadhi Kendra at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on October 29. This initiative is a key part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), aimed at providing accessible, quality healthcare to Indian citizens by offering affordable generic medicines.
Spanning 1,724 square feet, the AIIMS Jan Aushadhi Kendra will stock more than 2,047 essential generic medicines and 300 types of surgical devices, all at prices much lower than branded equivalents. This includes a wide range of medications for chronic and critical conditions, covering cardiovascular health, cancer treatments, diabetes, infections, allergies, gastrointestinal issues, and nutritional supplements.
Currently, over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras operate across India, providing essential medicines to nearly one million people daily. These centers have extended affordable healthcare services to some of India’s remotest regions across 780 districts. Plans are underway to expand this network to 25,000 Kendras over the next two years.
The inauguration of Jan Aushadhi Kendra at AIIMS marks a historic milestone in the relentless efforts of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) to reshape the healthcare landscape of India.
