PM Modi to inaugurate Noida International Airport Phase I today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh today, marking a major step in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure. The project, developed at an investment of around ₹11,200 crore under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model, is envisioned as a key international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR). The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the terminal building, followed by the formal inauguration and a public address.

Positioned as the second international airport serving the NCR alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport, the new facility is expected to ease congestion and significantly enhance passenger and cargo capacity in the region. In its initial phase, the airport will handle 12 million passengers per annum, with plans to scale up to 70 million passengers annually. It features a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation and lighting systems to support round-the-clock, all-weather operations.

The airport also integrates a multi-modal cargo hub, designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, with expansion capacity up to around 18 lakh metric tonnes. The cargo ecosystem includes an integrated terminal, logistics zones, and a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, strengthening India’s position in global supply chains.

Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is planned as a multi-modal transport hub with seamless connectivity across road, rail, metro, and regional transit networks. Designed with sustainability at its core, the project aims to operate as a net-zero emissions facility, combining energy-efficient systems with architectural elements inspired by traditional Indian design such as ghats and havelis.
