PM Modi to inaugurate over Rs 6,100 crore development projects in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Varanasi to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several significant development projects worth over Rs 6,100 crore.

The visit will commence at noon with the inauguration of the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital, which aims to provide comprehensive eye care services. In the evening , the Prime Minister will unveil multiple initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the region.

Among the key projects is the expansion of the runway and the construction of a new terminal at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi, with an estimated investment of Rs 2,870 crore. Additional foundations will be laid for new civil enclaves at Agra, Darbhanga, and Bagdogra airports, with allocations of Rs 570 crore, Rs 910 crore, and Rs 1,550 crore respectively. The inauguration of new terminal buildings at Rewa, Maa Mahamaya, Ambikapur, and Sarsawa airports, costing over Rs 220 crore, is also on the agenda, which will significantly boost the passenger handling capacity to over 2.3 crore annually.

In a bid to promote sports infrastructure, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex, valued at over Rs 210 crore. This facility will feature a National Centre of Excellence, player accommodations, a sports science center, and various practice fields.

Furthermore, tourism development initiatives related to Buddhism in Sarnath will be launched, including improvements to pedestrian pathways, sewer systems, and vending zones to support local artisans.

The visit will also encompass other development works such as beautification projects at Banasur Temple and Gurudham Temple, along with the redevelopment of parks in the area.
