PM Modi to lead 3rd edition of Voice of Global South Summit Today

India will host the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit today, continuing its commitment to the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—the world is one family. This event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’.

The summit aims to bring together nations from the Global South, providing a platform for sharing perspectives and priorities across a wide array of issues. The overarching theme for this edition, “An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future,” seeks to deepen discussions on the complex challenges that disproportionately affect developing countries, such as conflicts, food and energy security crises, and climate change.

In its weekly briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that all Global South nations have been invited to participate. The summit will feature continued deliberations on challenges, priorities, and potential solutions, particularly in the realm of development.

The 3rd Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) will be conducted virtually, with sessions at both the Leaders’ and Ministerial levels. Prime Minister Modi will host the inaugural session at the Head of State/Government level, centered on the summit’s main theme.

The event will also include ten Ministerial Sessions, covering a wide range of topics:

Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Charting a Unique Paradigm for Global South”, Health Ministers’ Session on “One World-One Health”, Youth Ministers’ Session on “Youth Engagement for a Better Future”, Commerce/Trade Ministers’ Session on “Trade for Development- Perspectives from Global South”, Information & Technology Ministers’ Session on “DPIs for Development- A Global South Approach”, Finance Ministers’ Session on “People-Centric Approach to Global Finance”, 2nd Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Global South and Global Governance”, Energy Ministers’ Session on “Sustainable Energy Solutions for a Sustainable Future”, Education Ministers’ Session on “Prioritising Human Resource Development: A Global South Perspective”, Environment Ministers’ Session on “Pathways for Progress- A Global South Perspective on Mitigating Climate Change”

India hosted the inaugural Voice of Global South Summit on January 12-13, 2023, and the second edition on November 17, 2023, both conducted virtually. Over 100 countries from the Global South participated in these summits, and the feedback received was reflected in the G-20 Summit’s agenda under India’s Presidency, influencing the G-20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
