PM Modi to visit Varanasi on Oct 20, lay foundation for 23 projects worth ₹1,300 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, on October 20 to lay the foundation stone for 23 development projects worth ₹1,300 crore.

Preparations are in full swing in Varanasi ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Earlier this week, the Union Cabinet approved a major infrastructure initiative—a rail-cum-road bridge across the Ganga, connecting Varanasi and Chandauli districts. This project will feature a six-lane highway on the upper deck and a four-line railway track on the lower deck, marking a significant engineering feat.

Ahead of his visit, PM Modi expressed his vision for Varanasi in a post on X, saying, “We are leaving no stone unturned for the comfort and convenience of the people of Kashi. A rail-road bridge over the Ganga has been approved, which will provide better connectivity for pilgrims, tourists, and locals while creating new opportunities for employment and business.”

The bridge project, with an estimated cost of ₹2,642 crore, is expected to be completed within four years. According to official reports, the initiative aims to improve logistical efficiency, enhance transportation networks, and boost economic growth by linking previously disconnected areas. The construction will generate employment equivalent to 10 lakh human-days, directly benefiting the region.

Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar India, these projects are designed to drive comprehensive regional development, fostering employment and self-employment opportunities.

Varanasi Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma confirmed the details of the upcoming visit, saying, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public program in Varanasi on October 20. He will lay the foundation stone for 23 projects and deliver an address to the people.”
