PM Modi urges citizens to join ‘Run for Unity’ honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged citizens to participate in the ‘Run for Unity’ on October 31, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and celebrating the spirit of unity and togetherness.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Join the Run for Unity on 31st October and celebrate the spirit of togetherness! Let’s honour Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India.”

On Sunday, during the 127th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, describing him as one of the greatest luminaries of modern India who made unparalleled efforts to strengthen the nation’s unity and integrity.

“Sardar Patel was one of the nation’s greatest figures in modern times. His towering personality embodied many qualities. He was an exceptionally bright student who excelled in India and Britain and went on to become one of the most successful lawyers of his time,” the Prime Minister said.

Recalling Patel’s early contributions, PM Modi noted his tenure as the head of the Ahmedabad Municipality, where he gave priority to cleanliness and good governance. “We will always remain indebted to him for his invaluable service as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary on October 31 by organising ‘Run for Unity’ events across Uttar Pradesh.

Known as the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the architect of national integration. At the time of Independence, the British attempted to divide India into several princely states. Through his firm leadership and vision, Patel unified 565 princely states, laying the foundation of a strong and united India.
