Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a bilateral visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from December 15 to 16 at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan and coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The visit comes amid sustained high-level political engagement between New Delhi and Amman and is expected to further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Jordan is home to a vibrant Indian diaspora of over 17,500 people, who have become an integral part of the country’s economic and social fabric. Indian nationals in Jordan are employed across sectors such as textiles, construction and manufacturing, contributing significantly to bilateral ties.
The Indian presence is particularly notable in Jordan’s garment and textile sector, which accounts for nearly one-fifth of the country’s total exports. Around 15 garment companies of Indian origin, with cumulative investments of close to USD 500 million, operate in Jordan’s Qualified Industrial Zones, with most of their production aimed at export markets under Jordan’s preferential trade arrangements.
Beyond textiles, Indians in Jordan are employed in healthcare, information technology, financial services, fertilizer companies, universities and multilateral organisations. The community is widely regarded as a skilled and reliable workforce, contributing to Jordan’s economic development while maintaining strong cultural and social links with India.
During the visit, PM Modi is expected to interact with members of the Indian community in Amman.
