PM Narendra Modi meets Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra at East Asia Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand, on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Vientiane. This marks the first meeting between the two leaders since Shinawatra assumed office.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the Thai Prime Minister on her new role and received her greetings on his historic third term in office. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors and explored ways to strengthen collaboration in sub-regional, regional, and multilateral forums.

Notably, they discussed initiatives to bolster regional cooperation through the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

India’s relationship with Thailand is a key component of India’s ‘Act East’ policy, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, as well as India’s broader Vision for the Indo-Pacific. The two leaders expressed mutual commitment to deepening ties and working together to address regional challenges.

This meeting reflects the ongoing commitment of both nations to enhance their partnership and cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world. (ANI)
