President Murmu extends greetings on eve of Gandhi Jayanti

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended greetings to the nation on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 156th birth anniversary.

In her message, the President described the occasion as an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the ideals and values of Mahatma Gandhi. She said that Gandhiji’s message of peace, tolerance, and truth continues to inspire humanity, while his lifelong struggle against untouchability, illiteracy, addiction, and social evils remains a guiding light.

President Murmu highlighted Gandhiji’s emphasis on morality, ethics, and self-reliance, noting that his vision of dignity of labour and the Charkha symbolized the goal of a self-sufficient and educated India. She added that his principles remain relevant even today and will continue to guide the nation in the future.

“On this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, let us again resolve to follow the path of truth and non-violence, remain committed to the welfare and progress of the nation, and realize Gandhi ji’s dream by building a cleaner, more capable, fully empowered, and prosperous India,” the President said.
