President Murmu highlights Patna Medical College’s role in Bihar’s healthcare at centenary celebration

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday participated in the centenary celebration of Patna Medical College (PMCH), emphasising the institution’s significance as one of Bihar’s most valuable heritages. During her address, she acknowledged the institution’s rich legacy and praised its evolution toward modernity. She remarked that PMCH was once among the top hospitals in Asia, with its alumni making notable contributions both domestically and internationally through their talent and dedication.

President Murmu highlighted the challenges patients face when traveling to other cities or states for medical treatment, including delays, accommodation issues, and employment disruptions. She stressed the need for decentralized healthcare to alleviate the burden on medical institutions in major cities and urged Bihar to develop centres of specialized medical care, similar to those in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Indore. The President expressed confidence that PMCH and its alumni could significantly contribute to such efforts, which would not only provide quality healthcare but also boost the state’s economy.

President Murmu encouraged PMCH stakeholders to embrace advancements like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to improve the accuracy and efficiency of medical treatments. She noted that the adoption of cutting-edge technologies would enhance doctors’ knowledge and make the healthcare process simpler.

President Murmu also urged the doctors to raise awareness about the importance of blood and organ donation, underscoring their crucial contributions to nation-building through their service to society.
