President Droupadi Murmu on Friday inaugurated the Nand Kishor Somani Oncology Block at the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram in Vrindavan, underscoring the importance of combining modern medical science with compassion in healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, the President described the Ramakrishna Mission as a symbol of the confluence of spiritual consciousness and humanitarian service. She noted that the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda continue to inspire efforts aimed at serving humanity through love, compassion, and selfless service.
Highlighting the significance of the new oncology facility, President Murmu said cancer remains one of the most serious health challenges, where timely diagnosis and access to quality treatment are critical for saving lives. She acknowledged that the high cost of treatment often makes it difficult for many families to seek proper care, and emphasised the role of service-oriented institutions in bridging this gap.
The President stressed the importance of awareness, early screening and preventive healthcare in tackling cancer. She said that building a strong and self-reliant nation depends on ensuring the health and well-being of its citizens.
Referring to government initiatives, she said programmes like Ayushman Bharat are helping expand access to affordable and quality healthcare services across the country, including cancer treatment for economically weaker sections.
President Murmu also highlighted the broader role of medical institutions driven by a spirit of service, noting that they not only treat illnesses but also instil hope, dignity and confidence among patients and their families.
Praising the efforts of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram, she expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated oncology block would significantly enhance healthcare services in the region and contribute to improving lives in the years ahead.
