President Murmu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla extend greetings on eve of Buddha Purnima

President Droupadi Murmu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday extended warm greetings to the nation on the eve of Buddha Purnima, highlighting the enduring relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in today’s world.

In her message, President Murmu conveyed her heartfelt wishes to citizens and followers of Bhagwan Buddha across the globe. She noted that the auspicious occasion marks the significant events of Bhagwan Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana. Emphasizing his timeless teachings, the President said that his message of compassion, non-violence, peace, and knowledge continues to guide humanity, especially at a time when the world faces multiple challenges.

She urged citizens to draw inspiration from these ideals and work collectively towards building a peaceful, inclusive, and just society.

Echoing similar sentiments, LS Speaker Om Birla described Buddha Purnima as not just a festival, but a reminder of the need for self-reflection, awareness, and spiritual growth. He highlighted the life of Gautama Buddha as a journey of sacrifice, wisdom, and compassion that offered practical solutions to life’s deeper questions.

Birla said Lord Buddha’s teachings – including the Middle Path, the Four Noble Truths, and the Eightfold Path – remain highly relevant even today. He underlined the importance of non-violence, tolerance, and equanimity as guiding principles for individuals and society.

The LS Speaker also invoked Buddha’s message of “Appa Deepo Bhava” (be your own light), encouraging individuals to seek inner transformation and walk the path of truth, kindness, and compassion.

Buddha Purnima, observed on the full moon day of the Vaishakh month as per Hindu calendar, is one of the most significant festivals for Buddhists worldwide, commemorating the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
