President Murmu urges Indian community in Angola to boost bilateral prosperity

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday addressed members of the Indian community in Angola, urging them to actively contribute to the shared prosperity of the two countries.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the Indian Ambassador in Luanda, Murmu said India values its partnership with Africa, particularly Angola, which is based on equality, mutual trust, and shared goals for progress. She highlighted India’s engagement with Africa through the India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) and said India looks forward to hosting the next summit soon.

“Angola is an important partner in India’s energy security, and India is one of Angola’s top trade partners,” she said, noting that bilateral trade crossed USD 5 billion last year.

The President said India is a major supplier of pharmaceuticals, food products, refined petroleum, automobiles, and machinery to Angola. Indian firms are active in sectors such as retail, tourism, diamonds, energy, infrastructure, hospitality, and agriculture, contributing to Angola’s economic growth and employment.

Murmu also highlighted the role of the Indian community in Angola, numbering around 8,000, praising their entrepreneurial spirit and professional excellence. She called on them to strengthen trade, investment, and people-to-people links between the two countries.

The event was attended by Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways V. Somanna, and Members of Parliament Parbhubhai Nagarbhai Vasava and D. K. Aruna.
