Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filed her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday.
She submitted her nomination papers in the presence of her mother and CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her brother and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Earlier on Tuesday, Rahul took to X to laud Priyanka as a champion of Wayanad’s needs and a powerful voice in Parliament.
The Wayanad bypoll will mark Priyanka’s first foray into electoral politics. She is contesting from this constituency after Rahul who won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha elections, vacated Wayanad to retain his seat in Rae Bareli.
Priyanka will be contesting against Navya Haridas, a candidate fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Sathyan Mokeri, the candidate from the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Haridas is a two-time Kozhikode Corporation councillor.
If Priyanka wins the bypoll, she will join Rahul and Sonia as the third serving Member of Parliament in her family.
During the Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka played a key role in managing the Gandhi family strongholds of Amethi and Rae Bareli, establishing herself as an important strategist for the Congress party.
The bypoll in Wayanad is scheduled to be held on November 13.
