The Election Commission of India (ECI) has proactively released extensive datasets related to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and four simultaneous State Assembly elections (Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim).
This includes 42 detailed statistical reports for the Lok Sabha elections and 14 reports for each of the state elections.
This initiative aims to enhance transparency and accessibility of election data, supporting stakeholders such as academicians, researchers, and election watchers in conducting in-depth analyses.
Key data released includes information on electors, polling stations, voter turnout, gender-based voting behaviour, performance of political parties, and constituency-level results.
Some notable highlights from the Lok Sabha elections 2024 include the fact that there were 97.97 crore registered electors in 2024, a 7.43% increase from 91.19 crore in 2019.
A total of 64.64 crore votes were polled, up from 61.4 crore in 2019. The highest voter turnout was in Dhubri (Assam) with 92.3%, while the lowest voter turnout was in Srinagar (J&K) with 38.7%, up from 14.4% in 2019. NOTA received 63.71 lakh votes (0.99%).
There were 10.52 lakh polling stations in 2024, compared to 10.37 lakh in 2019, with Bihar and West Bengal showing the highest increase in polling stations.
A total of 12,459 nominations were filed, with 8,360 qualifying as contesting candidates.
The data also highlights increased participation of women and third-gender voters.
There were 47.63 crore female electors, representing 48.62% of total electors. The number of female contesting candidates was 800, compared to 726 in 2019.
There were 48,272 third-gender electors, a 23.5% increase from 2019, with a significant rise in voter turnout from this group.
This release is seen as a treasure trove for detailed electoral studies and political trend analysis.
