Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed confidence that the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum would strengthen global innovation efforts and create new possibilities for innovations across member and partner countries while hosting a luncheon for the Presiding Officers and Leaders of Delegations of BRICS Member and Partner Countries at the Parliament in New Delhi.

Recalling the vision articulated during the BRICS Summit in September 2026, Radhakrishnan noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had highlighted how BRICS countries are emerging as important centres for global innovation and solutions.

BRICS: A Vital Pillar of Global Cooperation

Highlighting the growing significance of BRICS, Radhakrishnan said the forum had evolved into a vital pillar of global cooperation. He described BRICS as a platform where diverse cultures, rich histories and dynamic economies converge with a shared commitment to building a balanced, inclusive and prosperous world order.

He added that the deliberations and discussions during the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum reflected the collective determination of member and partner nations to address global challenges through solidarity, dialogue and mutual trust.

India’s Heritage as the Mother of Democracy

Welcoming the dignitaries to the Parliament of India, Radhakrishnan said they had assembled at a historic venue that serves as the nerve centre of India’s parliamentary democracy, which has evolved through the ages from the grassroots to the apex level.

He emphasised that democracy was not a new concept to Bharat. History reveals that democracy existed in places such as Vaishali in the North, while Chola rulers adopted the “kudavolai” system in the South. This deep-rooted heritage is why Bharat is rightly called the Mother of Democracy, he said.

Luncheon Reflects Indian Hospitality and Mutual Respect

Underlining the cultural significance of the gathering, Radhakrishnan said hosting guests for a luncheon in the Indian tradition was more than a formal courtesy, describing it as a genuine expression of warmth and mutual respect.

He said sharing a meal allowed leaders to move beyond policy and governance to nurture the human connection at the heart of international exchanges.

Radhakrishnan expressed hope that the luncheon would provide delegates with a pleasant opportunity to exchange ideas informally and deepen personal bonds. He wished that the aroma of Indian food, the warmth of Indian hospitality and the pleasant afternoon would leave a lasting impression on all the dignitaries.

Om Birla, Union Ministers and Delegates Attend

The event was attended by Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha; Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Parliaments of BRICS and partner countries; Union Ministers; Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha; Secretaries-General of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha; officials from BRICS and partner nations; and other distinguished guests.

Concluding his address, Radhakrishnan thanked the dignitaries for their presence and wished them fond memories of their time in India and of the friendships renewed and forged during the forum. He also extended warm wishes for an enjoyable meal and long-lasting friendship.
