Rajnath Singh engages Indian diaspora in Berlin, highlights role in strengthening India-Germany ties

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in Berlin, describing the community as a vital link in deepening ties between India and Germany.

Addressing a gathering on the first day of his three-day visit, Singh praised the nearly 300,000-strong Indian community in Germany for its contributions across sectors such as business, technology, healthcare, academia, and the arts. He termed the diaspora the “strongest bridge” connecting the two nations and encouraged them to continue fostering closer economic and cultural relations.

Highlighting India’s growing global stature under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh said the country’s voice now carries greater weight in international forums. He urged the diaspora to actively promote India’s perspective on global issues and contribute to strengthening bilateral engagement.

The Defence Minister also noted that 2026 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Germany, built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, and respect. He called on the Indian community to remain connected to their cultural roots while playing a proactive role in advancing the partnership.

Emphasising India’s economic and technological progress, Singh pointed to advancements in infrastructure, start-ups, space, and digital innovation. He reiterated that the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat aims to boost domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports.

Describing the interaction as a “special moment,” Singh expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation, calling it a reflection of the strong and evolving India–Germany relationship.
