Rajnath Singh highlights blurring line between border and internal security

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday highlighted the growing overlap between border security and internal security, emphasizing that hybrid warfare can threaten critical national infrastructure even during peacetime.

Speaking at the Defence Ministers’ conclave, “BRIDGE—Building Resilience through International Defence and Global Engagement,” held at Hotel Taj West End in Bengaluru, Singh said, “The increasing number of conflicts is making the world more unpredictable. New power dynamics, evolving methods of weaponization, the growing influence of non-state actors, and disruptive technologies have made the global order more fragile.”

He noted that the traditional concept of a frontline is rapidly changing, with cyberspace and outer space challenging established notions of sovereignty.

Addressing the broader security challenges faced by India, Singh pointed out that threats such as terrorism, cybercrime, humanitarian crises, and climate-induced disasters transcend national borders, necessitating a unified global response.

“India’s reputation as a trusted partner in defence exports is built on our commitment to quality, reliability, and meeting the specific needs of our partners. Our defence industry is well-equipped to provide solutions ranging from cutting-edge technology to cost-effective systems,” he said.

Singh also highlighted India’s longstanding commitment to peace, security, and inclusive development, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five ‘S’ approach: Samman (Respect), Samvaad (Dialogue), Sahyog (Cooperation), Shanti (Peace), and Samriddhi (Prosperity).

He emphasized that evolving global security challenges require innovative solutions and stronger partnerships, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering security and growth for all through its international engagements.
