Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang in New Delhi on Wednesday, with both sides reviewing ongoing defence cooperation and agreeing to further deepen strategic ties.
The meeting reflected the growing strategic trust between India and Vietnam under their Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In a post on X, Rajnath Singh said he had an excellent meeting with General Phan Van Giang and noted that India values its long-standing ties with Vietnam. He said the discussions focused on adding greater momentum to defence cooperation and expressed confidence that recent developments reflected positive progress in bilateral engagement.
During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral defence engagements, including high-level exchanges, training programmes and capacity-building initiatives. They also acknowledged increasing convergence in strategic interests, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
The talks focused on strengthening defence cooperation through enhanced maritime engagement, expansion of defence industry collaboration and promotion of joint research, co-development and co-production initiatives.
Both sides also stressed the importance of regular interactions between the armed forces of the two countries, including port calls, joint exercises and institutional dialogue mechanisms.
Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s commitment to cooperate with Vietnam in line with India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth for All in the Region (MAHASAGAR).
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global security developments and underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability and a rules-based international order.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Vietnam to further strengthen their defence partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation in the years ahead.
