Rajya Sabha chairman Radhakrishnan congratulates Indian contingent on historic Commonwealth Games and Para Games performance

Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday congratulated the Indian contingent for its outstanding performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Para Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing the achievements as a matter of immense pride for the nation.

Making a felicitation statement in the Rajya Sabha, the RS Chairman said the House joined him in applauding the athletes for their exceptional display on the international stage, which reflected the growing excellence of Indian sportspersons.

India finished fourth in the Commonwealth Games medal tally with a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals. The country’s para-athletes also recorded their best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Para Games, winning seven medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze.

The RS Chairman said the achievements had brought honour to the nation and stood as a testimony to the dedication, hard work and rising standards of Indian athletes across sporting disciplines.

On behalf of the Rajya Sabha and in his personal capacity, RS Chairman Radhakrishnan extended heartfelt congratulations to the athletes, coaches, support staff, the Indian Olympic Association, the Paralympic Committee of India and the National Sports Federations for their contributions to India’s success.

He expressed confidence that the medal winners would inspire budding sportspersons across the country, as well as young Indians, to pursue excellence through hard work, discipline, determination and perseverance.

The Rajya Sabha also conveyed its best wishes to the country’s sportspersons for continued success and expressed hope that they would bring even greater glory to India in the years to come.
