Ravindra Jadeja becomes seventh Indian bowler to pick 300 Test wickets

Star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja achieved a significant milestone on Monday, becoming the seventh Indian bowler to take over 300 Test wickets.

Jadeja reached this landmark on the fourth day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur. During Bangladesh’s first innings, he claimed one wicket and conceded 28 runs in his 9.2-over spell, removing Khaled Ahmed for a four-ball duck in the 75th over.

The 35-year-old is now the second-fastest bowler to reach 300 wickets, following Ravichandran Ashwin. Jadeja accomplished this feat in just 17,428 balls, while Ashwin took 15,636 balls to reach the same milestone.

Jadeja made his Test debut in 2012 against England. Since then, he has played 73 matches and 138 innings, picking up 300 wickets at an economy rate of 2.47. Additionally, he has scored 3,122 runs from 106 Test innings.

Recapping the match, India won the toss and opted to field first. Day one concluded with Bangladesh at 107/3. No play occurred on day two due to rain, and day three was affected by a wet outfield. Play resumed only on day four.

After some positive cricket from Shadman Islam (24 runs off 36 balls, with four boundaries) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (31 runs off 57 balls, with six fours), Mominul kept the Bangladesh innings together with his 13th Test century, battling bravely against spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Mominul stitched a 54-run partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (20), which helped Bangladesh reach 233 all out.

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, finishing with figures of 3/50. Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Akash Deep each took two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed one.

India had opted to bowl first after winning the toss. In the first Test, India secured a victory by 280 runs, setting a target of 515 runs for Bangladesh and dismissing them for 234. Key performances came from Ravichandran Ashwin (113 runs and 6/88), Shubman Gill (119 not out), Rishabh Pant (109 runs), and Jasprit Bumrah (4/50 and 1/24).

India currently leads the two-match Test series 1-0.
