Sensex, Nifty end lower after record highs

India’s benchmark indices closed marginally lower on Friday, after reaching their record highs in the previous session. The Sensex dropped 71.77 points, or 0.09%, to settle at 82,890.94, while the Nifty slipped 32.40 points, or 0.13%, closing at 25,356.50.

Market breadth remained positive, with 2,363 stocks advancing, 1,431 declining, and 102 remaining unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty included Wipro, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, and IndusInd Bank. On the downside, major laggards were ITC, Adani Ports, HDFC Life, Coal India, and SBI Life.

In broader markets, the BSE Midcap index rose 0.5%, while the Smallcap index surged 1%, signaling continued strength.

Sector-wise, most indices ended in the green, except for FMCG, power, and oil & gas. IT, media, metal, realty, and PSU banks led the gains, with increases ranging from 0.5% to 1.7%.
