Union Higher Education Secretary K. Sanjay Murthy inaugurated the seventh edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 via video conference today. The event was held at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) headquarters, with AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam and Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere in attendance.
Smart India Hackathon: Fostering Innovation
The SIH, organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in partnership with AICTE, is the world’s largest open innovation platform. This year’s edition features 202 problem statements from various government bodies and organizations, inviting students from across India to propose innovative solutions to pressing challenges.

In his address, K. Sanjay Murthy highlighted the hackathon’s alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing its role in promoting experiential learning and fostering industry-academia collaboration. He urged participants to focus on sustainability and innovation for a better future.
Prof. T.G. Sitharam described the SIH as a powerful platform for youth empowerment and creativity, while Dr. Abhay Jere reflected on its evolution since 2017, noting its impact on nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset and driving innovation across India.
