Severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ weakens into cyclonic storm over coastal West Bengal: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ has weakened into a cyclonic storm over coastal West Bengal.

The storm was centered approximately 40 km northwest of Mongla (Bangladesh), 90 km east of Kolkata, 90 km northeast of Canning, 130 km northwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), and 140 km southwest of Dhaka.

The IMD predicted that Remal would likely move north-northeastwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression by the afternoon. The storm was expected to bring light to moderate rainfall in most areas, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of the eastern districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on May 27 and 28.

Additionally, the IMD issued sea warnings, indicating high sea conditions over the North Bay of Bengal until the afternoon, which would gradually improve to become very rough to rough thereafter until the night of May 27.
