Shivraj Singh Chouhan to lead Indian delegation at 15th BRICS agriculture ministers’ meeting in Brazil

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will lead the Indian delegation to the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), scheduled to be held on Thursday in Brasilia, Brazil, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare said in a statement.

Themed “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade among BRICS Countries,” the meeting will bring together agriculture ministers and senior officials from BRICS member nations — including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa — along with new participants such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

During his visit, Chouhan is expected to hold bilateral meetings with key Brazilian leaders, including Carlos Henrique Baqueta Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, and Luiz Paulo Teixeira, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA). Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in agriculture, agri-tech, rural development, and food security.

The Minister will also engage with top Brazilian agribusiness leaders and representatives of the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries in São Paulo, to explore avenues for investment and collaboration across the agricultural value chain.

In a symbolic gesture, Chouhan will participate in a tree plantation drive at the Embassy of India in Brasilia, under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign — a green initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and honouring motherhood.

He is also scheduled to interact with the Indian diaspora in São Paulo, acknowledging their role in strengthening India-Brazil ties and promoting cultural exchange.
