A new chapter in defence-oriented education began in Karnataka with the inauguration of the Shri Krishna Devaraya Sainik School in Sindhanur town of Raichur district, in the presence of Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth.
The inauguration, marked by a grand roadshow and enthusiastic public participation, is being seen as a significant step towards strengthening value-based and defence-focused education in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Seth described the occasion as a defining moment, emphasising that Sainik Schools play a vital role in nurturing discipline, leadership, resilience and a spirit of national service among students. He highlighted Karnataka’s important contribution to India’s defence ecosystem, pointing to institutions such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, as well as indigenous platforms like the HAL Tejas.
He noted that the expansion of the Sainik School network, with dozens of new schools approved under the public-private partnership model, reflects the government’s commitment to accessible and quality education aligned with nation-building goals.
Kumaraswamy said the establishment of the school fulfils a long-standing demand of the region and reflects the Centre’s vision of strengthening India’s defence capabilities through education. He thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other stakeholders for their support in making the project a reality.
Calling for unity beyond political differences, Kumaraswamy stressed that development must remain a shared priority. He highlighted the need for further initiatives in the region, including improved infrastructure, industrial growth and proposals such as an AIIMS in Raichur.
He also referred to the proposed Navile Reservoir project, stressing the importance of cooperation between states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to address water-related challenges and support agriculture in the region.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, public representatives and members of the Shri Krishna Devaraya Education Society.
Named after the iconic ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire, the school symbolises a blend of cultural heritage and modern education. Officials said it is expected to play a transformative role in shaping disciplined and capable youth while contributing to the region’s educational and developmental landscape.
