Top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend have set up a final date with number three seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenka in the women’s doubles final at the Australian Open.
Both teams came through a three-set semifinal at the Margaret Court Arena on Friday (January 24).
Siniakova and Townsend came from a set behind to end the run of unseeded Mirra Andrea and Diana Haider 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, while Hsieh and Ostapenko overcame second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3.
Hsieh and Ostapenko took a closely fought first set in the tie-breaker.
After losing the second, they cut short a fightback from Dabrowski and Routliffe to win the decider convincingly.
Wimbledon champions last year, Siniakova and Townsend will aim for their second grand slam title as a team.
While, Hsieh and Ostapenko will eye their first major title in just their second tournament together.
