The Indian Coast Guard, established on February 1, 1977, is a maritime law enforcement and search-and-rescue agency with jurisdiction over India’s territorial waters, including the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone. The force was initially proposed by the Indian Navy to provide non-military maritime services to the country.

In her message, President Murmu said that over the past five decades, the Indian Coast Guard has played a key role in protecting the coastline, securing maritime interests, and ensuring maritime safety.

“The dedication and courage of its personnel are a source of pride for the nation. As the Coast Guard enters its ‘Swarnim Varsh’ (Golden Year), the Vice President expressed confidence that its vision, expertise, and collaborative spirit would further enhance India’s maritime security and global standing. He wished the force continued success, innovation, and excellence, and praised its personnel and families for their honour, courage, and dedication to the motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah’ — We Protect.
