Amit Shah highlights OBC welfare initiatives in Haryana

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday addressed the ‘Pichhda Varg Samman Sammelan’ in Mahendragarh, Haryana . He highlighted significant steps taken by the Haryana government for the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The event was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Rao Inderjit Singh, and Krishan Pal Gurjar.

Shah announced three key decisions by the Haryana Cabinet: increasing the creamy layer limit for OBCs from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh (excluding salaries and agricultural income), providing 8% reservation in Group A and 5% in Group B for Panchayats and Municipal Corporations. He emphasized that these decisions align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies aimed at public welfare.

Shah praised PM Modi for being the first strong Prime Minister from a backward class and highlighted that out of 71 Union Cabinet ministers, 27 are from Backward Classes, including two from Haryana. He mentioned that PM Modi has given constitutional recognition to the OBC Commission and introduced 27% reservation for OBCs in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and NEET examinations.

He criticized previous governments for corruption, casteism, and nepotism, and commended PM Modi’s government for transforming Haryana’s image from a state known for corruption to one known for ease of doing business.

Shah said that Haryana is the largest exporter of basmati rice, has maximum jawans in the army, and is the state with the highest crop purchases on MSP. Haryana also leads in several developmental metrics such as being the first state to provide tap water to every household and having the highest per capita GST collection.

The Union Home Minister underscored the Modi government’s contributions to Haryana’s development, including significant infrastructure projects like expressways, national highways, and metro rail, as well as establishing educational and medical institutions like AIIMS in Rewari and a new IIT campus in Jhajjar.
