Heavy rainfall in Gujarat has led to severe flooding, forcing the closure of roads and disrupting transportation. In Jamnagar, the road connecting Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya has been closed due to flooding. A portion of a small bridge over Sir PN Road has also been washed away, further complicating the movement of commuters in the area.

In response to the worsening situation, the Indian Army has been deployed to support ongoing relief efforts. Following a request from the Gujarat government, six columns of the Army are conducting rescue operations in the most affected regions.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been active, rescuing 95 people as part of their ongoing efforts.

Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that over 5,000 people have been rehabilitated, and more than 12,000 have been rescued as of Wednesday, following the torrential rains in Vadodara.

PM Narendra Modi spoke to Gujarat CM to inquire about the flood situation and the measures being taken to assist those affected.

“The Prime Minister gave guidance on matters including sanitation and public health in the flooded areas and to restore public life quickly, and once again assured all support from the Central Government,” the Gujarat CM added.

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted additional rainfall in the state, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in Saurashtra and Kutch, and very heavy rainfall across Gujarat.

“Extremely heavy rainfall may occur over Saurashtra and Kutch. Very heavy rainfall may occur over Gujarat,” it said in a post on X.
