Heavy rain warning for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

In today's (August 18,2023) countrywide forecast of the India Meteorological Department, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Along with this, heavy rain has also been predicted in Central India and Northeast India. An official of the department has said that the weather will remain like this in Himachal Pradesh until August 23. On the other hand, the Rishikesh-Badrinath and Gangotri roads have been closed due to heavy rains.

Delhi: According to the forecast of the department, even today people will be troubled by the humid heat. The movement of clouds will continue, but there is no possibility of rain.

East India: According to the forecast of the department, there is a possibility of heavy rain at some places in Odisha and Jharkhand today and tomorrow, Bihar from today till August 21, and West Bengal and Sikkim today.

Central India: According to the forecast of the department, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha are likely to receive scattered heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on August 19. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated places in Chhattisgarh today.

Northeast India: According to the forecast of the department, heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh for two to three days.

Northwest India: According to the forecast of the department, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places with thunderstorms and lightning over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, and till August 21.

South India: According to the forecast of the department, there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning over coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Telangana today and tomorrow. Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu today.

A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Uttarakhand until August 21. A total of 231 routes, including the Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway, have been blocked due to incessant rains. The work of opening these blocked routes is going on.

The weather remained clear in most parts of the state, including Dehradun, from Thursday morning until the afternoon. Although the sky is partly cloudy, In the plains, including Dehradun, the scorching sun has created a sultry effect on the weather. A total of 74 people have died and 43 have been injured in the state since March 15 due to excessive rains during the monsoon season. Also, 19 people are missing. The search operation is on to find the missing people.

A yellow alert has been issued in the state for August 18 for Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar for an intense to very intense spell of heavy rain at some places with thunder. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the state until August 21.

According to the State Disaster Response Centre, a total of 231 roads, including Rishikesh Yamunotri National Highway (NH 54), Hanuman Chatti in Uttarkashi district, 13 state roads in the state, and 03 borders in Pithoragarh district, are blocked. The work of opening the blocked routes is going on by the concerned department.
