Jharkhand to establish special university for differently-abled students

Jharkhand government has announced plans to establish eastern India’s first university dedicated to differently-abled students. State Higher and Technical Education Minister Champai Soren revealed this initiative on Thursday, emphasizing the unique focus on providing specialized education tailored to the needs of differently-abled students.

“I have directed officials to open a special university for differently-abled students. The proposed university in Ranchi will be the first educational institution in eastern India, offering education tailored to the needs of differently-abled students with special courses and educational equipment,” said Soren.

During a review meeting held on July 11, former Chief Minister Champai Soren, along with officials and academicians, assessed the progress of the Higher and Technical Education Department. Soren stressed the importance of improving the state’s educational infrastructure to prevent students from seeking education outside Jharkhand.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University in Jamshedpur. The appointment process for a new Vice-Chancellor is underway, expected to accelerate the university’s development.

In a post on his official social media handle X, Soren reiterated his commitment to the new university, highlighting its role in providing specialized education and equipment suited to the needs of differently-abled students.

Additionally, the department has proposed the Navotthan Scholarship Scheme. This initiative aims to reimburse the full course fees of meritorious orphans and differently-abled students from Jharkhand. Furthermore, these students will receive annual assistance for residential and food arrangements.
