An Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan collapsed on Tuesday during the 92nd anniversary celebrations of the IAF at Tambaram Air Force Station in Chennai. Visuals from the event showed the jawan being carried away on a stretcher.
The incident occurred just two days after five people attending an IAF air show at Marina Beach in Chennai died due to heat and exhaustion. The air show, organized as part of the celebrations leading up to the 92nd Air Force Day, saw large crowds, many of whom suffered from the extreme heat.
The opposition BJP has blamed the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government for poor planning at the air show. BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy accused the government of mismanagement, saying, “The maladministration and inadequate traffic arrangements by the state police resulted in the loss of five lives, with hundreds admitted to hospitals in Chennai.”
“This is due to a lack of proper planning. The state government must take responsibility and ensure such tragedies do not occur again,” he added.
