Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, on Thursday, presented awards to 26 young medical professionals from across the country for their work in various medical specialities.
The awards were presented at a healthcare conclave organised by a media house, where doctors were recognised for their contributions in fields such as oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology, orthopaedics and emergency medicine.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Jitendra Singh said recognising doctors at an early stage of their careers encourages them to pursue excellence and continue contributing to the healthcare sector. He said awards given during the prime years of a professional’s career often serve as a strong motivation compared to recognitions received at the later stages.
The minister said the healthcare sector is witnessing rapid change due to the emergence of new technologies and artificial intelligence. While these advancements have improved diagnosis and treatment methods, he noted that the role of doctors remains central, as experience and clinical judgement continue to be vital in patient care.
Sharing his observations on the evolution of medical education, Dr Jitendra Singh said earlier medical training often focused on understanding a few diseases in depth to grasp the broader field of medicine. Over the years, however, medicine has expanded into numerous specialised disciplines with new treatment approaches and technological tools.
He noted that with the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, the medical field has become more complex. In this changing landscape, he advised young doctors to focus on developing expertise in specific areas and to keep updating their knowledge as medical science continues to evolve.
Dr Jitendra Singh also spoke about the post-COVID healthcare environment, where both communicable diseases and lifestyle-related health issues continue to pose challenges to healthcare systems.
