Terrorism now ‘borderless and invisible’, needs cutting-edge tech: Amit Shah at Anti-Terror Conference

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday cautioned against the rising threat of “borderless and invisible” terrorism at the Anti-Terror Conference 2024, emphasizing the urgent need for advanced technology to effectively combat these evolving threats.

Speaking at the inaugural session of ‘Anti-Terror Conference-2024’, Shah said, “The terrorist attacks and their conspiracy are against us in a borderless and invisible manner. If we have to deal with it accurately, then our young officers will have to be equipped with the highest technology, they will have to be trained. We will make it an important part of the training in the coming days.”

Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is taking the next step in its proactive approach to combat terrorism and will come up with a National Counter Terrorism Policy and Strategy.

“But as I said, police is a state subject and the fight will have to be done by the state police only. All the (central) agencies will support you, from giving information to taking action,” Shah added.

Shah said Prime Minister Modi’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism is now accepted globally .

He reflected on the strides India has made in internal security, with a robust ecosystem now in place to counter terrorism effectively. Shah paid tribute to the over 36,000 police officers who have sacrificed their lives in service, upholding India’s security and defending its borders.

Organized by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the two-day Anti-Terror Conference-2024 seeks to foster coordinated action among key stakeholders in the fight against terrorism. A Ministry of Home Affairs release outlined the conference’s objectives: facilitating collaboration through a ‘Whole of Government’ approach and generating insights for future policy formulation.
