Tragic building collapse in Mumbai: One dead, 13 injured

On Saturday morning, parts of a building collapsed in Mumbai’s Grand Road area, resulting in one fatality and injuring 13 others. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the tragedy occurred at Rubina Manzil, located near Grant Road Railway Station, at approximately 11 am.

According to BMC officials, the collapse involved portions of the balcony and slab on the second and third floors, as well as parts of the upper four-story structure. Some sections of the building were left precariously hanging, posing additional risks.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with police, ambulances, and civic staff, promptly launched a rescue operation. At least seven to eight residents were initially stranded on the top floor of the four-story building, adding urgency to the rescue efforts.

“One person died and 13 were injured after some part of the balcony collapsed. They were rushed to a local hospital, where a woman was declared dead, while others are undergoing treatment,” a BMC official said.

This incident comes amid continuous rainfall in Maharashtra, which has severely disrupted daily life in Mumbai. Public transport services have been affected, causing significant inconvenience to commuters across the city.

In response to the overall situation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the administration in Nagpur to remain vigilant and ensure minimal inconvenience to citizens due to the ongoing downpours.
