Following the successful execution of Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan-based terror camps, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday reaffirmed India’s firm commitment to eradicating terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Under PM Modi’s leadership, it is our firm resolve to uproot terrorism. A historic mistake was made in 1960 with the Indus Waters Treaty — but we are now correcting that,” Chouhan declared while addressing a gathering in New Delhi.
“We neither provoke anyone nor do we spare those who trouble us. Terror camps have been destroyed. Under the PM’s leadership, we are fully committed to eliminating terrorism from its roots,” he added.
Meanwhile, heavy shelling by the Pakistani Army across the Line of Control (LoC) since the night of May 7, in retaliation for Operation Sindoor, has severely impacted civilians in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), 13 civilians lost their lives in Poonch, and 59 people have been injured, 44 of them in Poonch district alone, due to Pakistan’s ceasefire violations along the LoC.
The External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the MEA confirmed that the intense shelling was in response to India’s May 7 operation, during which the Indian Armed Forces struck nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan had already begun resorting to unprovoked ceasefire violations with small arms fire since the night of April 25–26.
On Thursday morning, residents of border villages in Rajouri, who had fled their homes in fear, began returning. However, they reported extensive damage to their homes and properties, noting that entire families — along with their livestock — had been forced to evacuate due to the shelling.
